The work week itself was pretty uneventful this week, but moving day was rather fun. Last night I loaded a bunch of stuff up in the Pimpy Red Van and set my alarm for 0415 so I could hit the snooze button a few times before actually climbing out of bed so I could make the 50 mile drive to The Storage Castle by 0600. At about 0500 I climbed into the Pimpy Red Van to discover that the battery was dead, I had left the key on all night. This isn't too surprising since I rarely remove the key from the ignition, and no electronics are on when the key is on.
After a quick search for my battery charger, and ten minutes on the charger, I was able to get the Pimpy Red Van to wake up and agree to go for a drive. Once I got to The Storage Castle, I walked into the above hallway and immediately thought, "ISO 100, 1/200th and about f/8 to f/11 to kill the ambient, a single light at 1/8-1/16th power at the end of the hall aiming directly at the camera with my subject blocking the light, another light with a snoot at 1/2-1/4 power at the side of the camera to front light the subject and I'll have a nice dramatic portrait of someone." Anyone up for it?
After dropping off the first load of my junk I had to fight morning traffic into the city to get back home. After a missed turn I was able to make it home in about 90 minutes. On the way home I bought several newspapers, something I haven't done in years. It turns out that newspapers still work great for packing crystal dining ware.
After packing the crystal into the cabinet, and a dresser, I organized my tools for the first time in ages then load the tools, crystal and dresser into the Pimpy Red Van for the second trip. This time I was able to narrowly avoid the afternoon traffic jams and make it home in time for some string drinks. My cousin and his wife came by to pickup my TV and they enjoyed one of the best vodka martini's this side of heaven.
Last night my roomie promised to pick up some meat to grill, but he came home empty handed so I wound ordering a Pagliacci, not the worst option on the table :-)
I have more stuff loaded up to take to The Storage Castle in the morning, then it's work for another week and my last "moving" day.
It's getting REAL exciting REAL soon!
