I am lucky to have met many incredibly amazing people in my life, and very fortunate that a few have become good friends, Stephanie is a fine example of this type of person. These people are not only smart people with great character, but they also inspire me to become a better person, and those are some of my favorite types of people. The story of how Stephanie and I met is pretty fun, so let me share...
When I was about 18 or 19 I worked swing shift at a sawmill and getting home late at night was normal. On one such night I had the phrase "Damsel in distress" stuck in my head and felt like going for a drive. I drove all the way to the ferry dock on the Key Peninsula where I sat for a bit before I turned around and headed back to my home in Seattle.
On the way back I stopped off at the Fife rest area for a quick restroom break. As I walked to the building I spotted a Honda CVCC with the hood up and a guy poking around. After using the restroom I asked the guy he needed a hand as I had my tools with me. He said the car was just overheating and declined my offer for help. As I walked away I heard a shout from inside the car.
There were two sisters in the back seat, we talked a bit about their situation. They were on the way home from a Charlie Daniels concert when they started having troubles with the car and had finals at the UW the next day. After a little more chatting Stephanie asked me if I could give them a ride back to the UW in Seattle. I agreed and after a little haggling with their friend, we were on our way. Stephanie played DJ while her sister tried her best to not look terrified in the backseat. We exchanged phone numbers when I dropped them off and Stephanie and I have been friends since.
