I've gone out on solo photo walks many times trying to capture whatever caught my eye, but being a natural introvert, I've always avoided people. Recently I had a free day in Portland, Oregon so I hopped on the train and went downtown with the intent of shooting people. It was fun crisscrossing town with the camera dangling at my side looking or people doing something. I did learnt hat having a camera with a grip and lens with a hood makes me stand out a bit. I think getting the Canon pancake 40mm lens and setting out without the grip would make doing street photography like this a little easier.
This is one of my early shots from the day. I saw this guy sitting there looking down the road, away from me, so I leaned against the wall, framed the shot, set the exposure and just waited for him to turn and look in my general direction. When he finally did I grabbed this one shot then moved on.
I really liked the excitement of capturing people on the street and intend to do some more of it.
